AWE's Nuclear Threat Reduction team currently have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for the design, manufacture, assembly and validation on a broad range of engineering projects.
Applicants must be able to apply engineering methods, tools and processes to complex engineering tasks; provide guidance and mentoring to inexperienced engineers; deliver engineering solutions that will maximise productivity, reliability, innovation and quality to the business.
Ideally you will have demonstrable experience of working on multi-disciplined projects and be familiar with most of the following areas:
- Stakeholder engagement skills, and clear understanding of technical requirements
- Mechanical design and substantiation of hardware
- Development of assembly methods and safe systems of work
- Awareness of systems engineering principles, techniques and management processes
- Oversight of hardware manufacture/ assembly
- Role model behaviours with regards to safety and security.
- Product Lifecycle Management including configuration management and quality control.
- 3D modelling and draughting (ideally in Siemens NX)
- Working in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
To support technical delivery successful candidates will also be able to quickly grasp and articulate challenges and solutions. Proficiency in the following is therefore necessary:
- Technical and management skills including problem solving and decision making
- Oral, written and presentation skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective communication across levels and disciplines (both internally and externally)
- Ability to provide independent peer review.
- Developing an understanding of the financial and programmatic implications of decisions taken.
Desirable
- Engineering/Quality analysis techniques (including FMEA)
- Understanding of Finite element analysis (FEA)
- Understanding of Geometrical Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Member of a professional institution or working towards.
Roles are available at various levels however candidates would ideally have a degree in an Engineering discipline (with or working towards professional registration), HNC/ HND or proven working experience in a similar environment.
