I am currently working with a sub-contract sheet metalworking business based in Rugby. Due to growth, they now have a requirement for a Quality Inspector to join their existing Quality team based on the shop floor, working on one of various shift patterns.

Reporting directly to the Quality Manager, the Quality Inspector will be responsible for:

  • Conducting inspections of complex parts and assemblies using a Hexagon arm and OMM.
  • Creating and follow inspection plans based on engineering drawings.
  • Programming inspection routines on the OMM software.
  • Capturing precise dimensional data using both OMM and Hexagon arm.
  • Analysing inspection data to identify deviations and non-conformances.
  • Generating detailed inspection reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Maintaining calibration records for both OMM and Hexagon arm according to established procedures.
  • Identifying potential quality issues and proactively suggest corrective actions.
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of quality control processes.
  • Communicating effectively with production personnel and engineers regarding inspection results.

The ideal candidate for the Quality Inspector role will have:

  • A good knowledge of inspection equipment.
  • The ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Preferably have previous experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control or a related field.
  • Proven experience using optical measuring machines (OMMs) and proficiency in their software.
  • Solid understanding of dimensional measurement principles and techniques.
  • Experience using a Hexagon arm for 3D measurement and data capture is a strong asset.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (or similar software).
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles.
  • Experience with specific inspection software used with OMMs or Hexagon arms.

In return the Quality Inspector can expect to receive a competitive salary, 33 days flexible holiday entitlement and free onsite parking. The working hours for this role are on a straight day shift, which are: 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Thursday, and 08:00 – 14:00 Friday. A degree of flexibility will be expected if there is the requirement to cover other shifts in the case of holidays or sickness. The role is permanent and is monthly paid.
