Desktop Support Engineer

Robert Half is recruiting an experienced desktop support engineer for a construction organisation. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract with the potential for extension.

Role:

The desktop support engineer will be tasked with the following:.

  • Provide IT support to internal users using the Jira helpdesk system.
  • Maintain and standardise desktops, laptops, and applications, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Troubleshoot and support various devices, including workstations, laptops and mobile devices.
  • Create and update software builds, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Manage user accounts, network access, and maintain IT policies.
  • Prioritize and manage workloads to meet service levels, ensuring efficient issue resolution.
  • Identify and resolve recurring IT issues using problem management processes.
  • Support and administer Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Intune, and Active Directory.
  • Address issues on security and operational IT platforms to ensure efficiency.
  • Oversee system backups and test data recovery processes.
  • Manage IT assets and ensure a secure infrastructure that complies with company policies.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience troubleshooting and configuring Windows desktop environments.
  • Expertise in supporting Windows 10/11, Active Directory, Office 365, and Exchange.
  • Ability to provide 1st and 2nd level technical support, both in person and remotely.
  • Knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, basic firewall concepts).
  • Experience providing remote support and resolving issues via phone or remote tools.
  • Familiarity with Apple and Microsoft hardware.
  • Knowledge of backup software and procedures for recovery.
  • Ability to support and maintain anti-virus and malware protection.
  • Experience managing network infrastructure and printing support.
  • Competency in telephony and office equipment support (e.g., printers, copiers).
  • Ability to create technical documentation for employees.
  • Experience in managing software licensing and asset inventories.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.

Organisation:

  • 12-month contract with potential for extension
  • Full-time, 5 days a week based in central London offices
  • £180 - £200 per day, outside IR35
