We are seeking an experienced School Manager from a backgound in Higher Education to play a leading role in supporting and enabling our School within the Faculty of Science and Engineering to meet its strategic aims. This temporary position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the management and strategic direction of the School, working closely with the Head of School and senior staff.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide strategic, financial, operational, and management direction for the School, supporting research, teaching, recruitment, outreach, public engagement, partnership, and administrative activities.
  • Act as a key member of the School's senior management team, contributing to the development and implementation of the School's strategy.
  • Manage the School budget and implement mechanisms to maximise income generation.
  • Coordinate with central Professional Services and the Schools to support the endeavours of both the School and the University.
  • Lead the Professional Services and Technical staff within the School, fostering a development-focused ethos to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment within Higher Education.
  • Oversee the School's strategic, financial, research, staffing, teaching, and estate plans, ensuring alignment with the University's business planning processes.
  • Manage the School's risk register and ensure appropriate mitigating plans and actions are in place.
  • Ensure high-quality support for the School's education and research strategies, including TEF and REF requirements.
  • Promote effective communication within the School and facilitate the flow of information from the Faculty, University, and external sources.
  • Maintain local information systems and ensure the robustness of data and management information reports to guide local management decisions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in a senior management role within a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership.
  • Proven track record of managing budgets and maximising income generation.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing professional and technical staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage collaboratively across various departments and external partners.
  • Knowledge of risk management procedures and quality assurance within an educational context.
  • Familiarity with research and education strategies pertinent to the School.
  • Ability to work on-site a minimum of three days a week.
