Reed are supporting a Greater Manchester Local Authority in their recruitment to a vital Economic Development Service Manager position. In this role, you will lead and manage strategies, programmes, and initiatives that promote and secure the Council's economic development objectives. The role involves strategic management to ensure responsive, efficient, and accountable results in line with key Council priorities.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Provide effective leadership, direction, and management of the Economic Development service.
  • Advise Chief Officers and Elected Members on Economic Development issues, setting strategic direction and priorities to achieve economic objectives, including the delivery and evaluation of strategies and programmes.
  • Drive development initiatives that realise growth potential and maximise residents' access to job creation and skills opportunities.
  • Manage staff performance and culture, ensuring compliance with Council's financial management, business planning, and performance management arrangements.
  • Implement innovative approaches to problem-solving and service improvement, maintaining awareness of external influences on service strategy and delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of policy and investment frameworks, including planning and housing strategy, employment, and skills.
  • Ability to provide up-to-date technical knowledge and advanced theoretical, practical, and procedural advice on economic development.
  • Experience in leading large-scale transformational service reform and redesign.
  • Proven ability to develop new partnerships, multi-agency teams, and innovative ways of working to deliver responsive, efficient, and accountable results.
