Kitchen Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant to join our school catering teams across multiple locations in Leicester. The role involves assisting with the preparation, cooking, and serving of school meals, as well as maintaining cleanliness in dining and kitchen areas. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a vibrant school environment and is passionate about contributing to the health and well-being of children.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Assist with the preparation and cooking of food in line with nutritional guidelines, standard recipes, and pre-defined menus.
  • Set up serving and dining areas according to the menu and other pre-defined details.
  • Serve food while engaging positively with children and school staff.
  • Pack food prepared for distribution to other schools (for production hub kitchens only).
  • Perform routine cleaning of kitchen areas and equipment during and after each service.
  • Dispose of waste responsibly and maintain hygiene standards.
  • Act as a positive representative of the service, being approachable, friendly, and helpful.
  • Promote the uptake of school meals and participate in introducing new menus and ideas.
  • Handle catering logistics, including reporting equipment breakdowns, receiving deliveries, and recording food safety information.
  • Participate in regular deep cleaning of kitchen equipment and areas.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to work flexibly and provide cover at other locations as needed.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact positively with children and school staff.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and hygiene.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
