About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Pensions Manager to join our Pensions team at NFU Mutual.

At NFU Mutual we know how important planning for the future can be...as well as providing pensions to our customers, our own employees have the opportunity to join NFU Mutual's staff pension scheme which is managed by an in-house pensions function, led by Melanie Arthur (Pensions Manager)

You'll be supporting the Pensions Manager and leading a small team in the delivery of the effective management of NFU Mutual's company pension arrangements for the Trustee Directors, Company and Scheme Members.

The Scheme has both a defined benefit and defined contribution section, over £1bn assets held and over 10,000 members and so strong technical knowledge will be essential as you will act as the subject matter expect for the Scheme.

Your duties will include the co-ordination, production and review of Trustee meeting papers and meetings. Supporting the Scheme's sub-committees such as the Information Security Steering Group and the DC Comms Group. You will manage, advise on and resolve escalated queries raised both internally and externally. You will monitor, develop and maintain the scheme's business plan and risk log and plan, manage and review pension scheme communications, working with external specialists where appropriate.

Using your excellent communication skills you will maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assist in providing effective delivery of services to the pension scheme and monitor pensions training needs for internal stakeholders and provide training where needed.

Being a part of the pensions team at NFU Mutual provides great opportunities to get involved in many different aspects of pension scheme management, working closely with the Trustee Board to drive forward the busy pension scheme business plan.

This role is based in our Tiddington Head Office, just outside Stratford-Upon-Avon. However, we understand how important a positive work-life balance is to you, so we offer great facilities when you want to be in an office environment and support to work full-time, part-time and up to 80% of your hours from home. About you

To be considered for this role it is essential you have previous experience working within occupational pensions with knowledge of both defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes.

You will be able to demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate with people at all levels within the business and external advisers.

With a track record of working within pensions you it essential have:

  • Experience in a similar role, liaising effectively with employees as well as Trustees and professional advisers
  • Strong working knowledge of the current UK pensions arena, including Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension schemes, scheme governance and legislative requirements
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Confidence in writing reports
  • Pensions Management Institute's Advanced Diploma in Retirement Provision or equivalent
  • Team leadership experience is desirable but not essential
