Teaching Support Assistant - Autism

We are currently looking for teaching assistants to join a specialist setting in a central location of Leeds. These are full-time roles due to begin as soon as possible and run until the end of the academic year, with the view of going permanent for the right candidate.

Role specifics:

  • You will be supporting vulnerable young people who have autism and other additional learning needs. This will be on both a 1:1 and small group basis, under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that the students stay engaged in learning and activities, using a flexible and adaptable approach to make sure that all students needs are catered for and that the classroom is inclusive.
  • Experience using communication aids such as Makaton and PECs would be advantageous but training on these can be provided.
  • You will be supporting students and managing challenging behaviours, therefore the ideal candidate must be confident in their ability to de-escalate situations and manage situations effectively.

Relevant qualifications to childcare or SEND would be beneficial but experience, whether in an educational or residential setting, is essential. The school caters for students from EYFS to 19 years old and has excellent resources available to make sure that all students needs are taken care of.
