I have the pleasure of supporting Leeds CC in the search of the role of a Homeless Officer involves providing housing advice, homeless prevention, and support services to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Here are some key responsibilities typically associated with this role:

This is a temp ongoing role and is £15.43 per hour

Provide housing advice to the public through various channels (in-person, telephone, home visits, and outreach surgeries).

Educate clients on housing rights, options, welfare rights, landlord-tenant laws, and mortgage arrears.

Manage a caseload of housing advice cases to prevent homelessness or secure alternative housing options.

Investigate and determine homelessness applications in accordance with relevant legislation (e.g., Part VII of the Housing Act 1996).

Make recommendations to the Housing Advice and Homelessness team leader based on thorough investigations.

Advise clients on housing options, including private rent, low-cost home ownership, and the housing register.

Assist vulnerable clients, including those with special needs, in retaining their accommodation.

Follow protocols when working with young people threatened with homelessness and refer them to supported housing projects as needed.

Help clients access the private rented sector by providing information and advice on landlords and local letting agents.

View prospective properties with clients, negotiate with landlords, and assist with securing private rented accommodation.

Collaborate with internal teams (Housing Advice and Options staff, Housing Support Workers, etc.) and external stakeholders (local authorities, DWP, private landlords, etc.).

Maintain effective communication with relevant parties to ensure successful outcomes for clients.
