An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager to lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the local environment in Southwark. The role involves working with various services within the council to reduce graffiti and fly-tipping and to implement strategies for increasing household waste recycling rates and reducing waste generation. This position offers an immediate start with a 36-hour work week from Monday to Friday.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Lead and manage complex projects and strategies across the Waste & Cleaning Service.
  • Collaborate with services in Environment, Neighbourhoods and Growth to coordinate activities for reducing graffiti and fly-tipping.
  • Work with the Head of Waste and Cleaning to deliver projects outlined in the Waste Management Strategy Extension to 2025.
  • Facilitate the re-structure of the in-house Cleaning Service to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Address equality, diversity and inclusion within the Cleaning Service, creating training and development opportunities for front-line staff.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within scope, constraints, and budget.
  • Support project reporting and production of project-related artefacts.
  • Manage all aspects of project delivery from initiation to handover to business teams.
  • Effectively manage assigned resources, approved suppliers, allocated budgets, and set standards for programme and project management across the service.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably within a local government context.
  • Ability to manage and deliver complex projects and strategies simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in facilitating service re-structures.
  • Knowledge of waste management and environmental initiatives.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Competency in project reporting and budget management.
  • Commitment to addressing matters of equality, diversity and inclusion.
