Job Title: General Ledger (GL) Accountant

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000
About the Role:
We are currently seeking an experienced General Ledger (GL) Accountant to join a well-established organisation in Edinburgh on a contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled accountant with a strong background in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end processes. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain the General Ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with accounting standards.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are reconciled and variances are explained.
- Support the preparation of financial reports for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Assist with VAT returns and other tax compliance requirements as needed.
- Provide support during audits by ensuring documentation is complete and accurate.
- Identify and implement process improvements in the general ledger and reporting processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial data is aligned across departments.
About You:
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
- Previous experience in a General Ledger or Financial Accounting role, with a strong understanding of month-end close and reconciliations.
- Excellent knowledge of financial reporting and accounting principles.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software (e.g., Business Central, SAP, Oracle, or similar) is preferred.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with interim/contract roles is an advantage but not essential.
