Automations & Controls Engineer

An excellent opportunity has become available within a manufacturing business for an experienced Automations & Controls Engineer to join their team, operating in the Bristol area. Working across multiple niche sectors, this is an ambitious business with market leading technology and the aims of being a sustained market leader moving into the future. Addressing markets such as Automotive and Aerospace this business partners with some of the largest organisations in these sectors to support exciting and progressive projects.

The position holder will play a key role in their upcoming projects, working as part of the team that is focussing on the development of the control program and operator interface for one of the business' key tools. The position holder will be involved throughout the process from design to build and testing.

This role will require some travel (up to 10% of the time) and therefore applicants must be happy with this arrangement. There will also be an out of hours support rota in placed which will equate to a maximum of 1 week in 4 but could be significantly less.

Your Roles and Responsibilities

While in this role your duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the creation of project specifications as part of the entire full design process lifecycle
  • Carrying out software writing tasks for HMIs, PLCs and SCADA
  • Collaborating with colleagues across various functions to support the delivery of products on time
  • Developing and maintaining both well-structured and commented code
  • Commissioning new machines at the facility
  • Undertaking commissioning at customers sites during the installations

What you will need to Apply:

To be considered for this role you must have strong experience working in

PLC Programming

, ideally with Beckhoff or others that are relevant, alongside additional experience of

HMI programming

and demonstratable experience working with

Servo Drives, Fieldbus devices, pneumatics and Motion Control Products

  • Additional experience in robot motion would be desirable, as well as working with

G-Code

or something similar. It would be highly beneficial to possess an Engineering qualification, although significant experience would be sufficient. Technical knowledge of

IEC 61131-3 Structured Text and Sequential Function Chart is essential

to be considered, and additional knowledge of other languages such as

HTML 5, C# or SQL

would elevate any application.

What you will get in Return:

There is a wide salary range for this role, up to potentially £60,000 for a candidate with all relevant knowledge, experience and qualifications.
