SEN Teacher

ASEND is looking to appoint an experienced and dynamic SEN Teacher to join our exciting Tuition Centre in Uxbridge (UTC) in September. Working alongside the centre's therapeutic coordinator and wider support team, you will assist by assessing progress and devising appropriate learning and social programmes for our young people.

The UTC delivers a service that is very dear to our hearts - it supports children in Hillingdon with SEND who do not have a current school placements. We find it a work of great compassion to prepare these children for re-integration into full time school placements; no matter how easy or challenging it may be. The children we support are between the ages of 4 -16 and have a range of different needs. Children work in small groups and the centre supports a maximum of 20 young people at any given time. We strive to prepare our children for a swift return to education once a placement is identified, and focus on giving them valuable social and learning opportunities that will enable them to thrive.

Salary: £35,000 per year

Hours: 9am - 4.30pm - Monday to Friday, term time

About Us:

ASEND is a highly specialist SEND company that provides skilled professionals to schools, homes and a range of other settings. We strive to support local pupils who are not attending a school, to get an excellently planned personalised education while they are waiting for a full time school placement. The SEN Teacher will play a vital part in this by delivering high quality teaching, curriculum and lesson planning, managing Teaching Assistants and enhancing the experience of being in a school for pupils to make a successful move to their next school.

The SEN Teacher will provide fun and engaging lessons and activities tailored to the individual pupils and across the small class. A keen eye to detail is required to gather progress data, generate accurate reports, reports for reviews relating to each of our pupils. The job holder will use their past experience to guide the team and ensure that the level of work is gauged appropriately.

  • Knowledge and understanding of SEN and EHCPs

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Being responsible for 2 groups of students as a class teacher; morning and afternoon sessions
  • Collaborating on wider learning programmes and the overall curriculum with the centre lead
  • Deputising for the centre lead when required
  • Taking on any outreach responsibilities (for example if a young person needs a brief period of help at home to prepare for the setting)
  • Supporting the effective execution of pupils' transition planning
  • Leading on sharing information with new schools, and taking children on transition visits
  • Assessing pupils regularly
  • Developing termly personal learning plans
  • Preparing detailed termly assessment/ progress reports
  • Maintaining weekly learning journals for each student
  • Guide and support the LSA's and TA's to support children's learning.
  • Pro actively gather/ prepare resources for learning as part of a team
  • Adding to incident and safeguarding logs efficiently as and when needed
  • You will report to the centre coordinator
