Quantity Surveyor

Cedar Recruitment are delighted to be supporting a leading Engineering organisation in recruiting for an M&EQuantity Surveyor.

The role is permanent and will be working within the Commercial Team, predominantly on a large scale rail infrastructure project with the view to pick up smaller framework projects along the way.

You will be ensuring that projects are running in accordance to the budgeted forecast, and to maximise profit through cost control and the optimisation of variations to the Works.

You MUST be able to get into the office 3 days per week and have existing experience of M&E.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with and support the Project Manager(s) on a daily basis, to ensure projects are meeting commercial and financial target
  • Build strong and collaborative relationships with your client and supplier counterpart
  • Contribute to regular and accurate reporting to the Commercial Manager on/for: PHR/CVR/Cash Flow/Weekly Updates etc
  • Carry out valuations for the purpose of initial, interim and final payment applications
  • Manage project sub-contractor and supplier accounts in line with the agreed subcontracts and to align with any upstream contractual requirements
  • Identify, notify, value and agree change (variations, compensation events, claims)
  • Ensure the Works are managed in accordance with the terms of the contract and any conditions precedent therein, not least regarding the times for giving notices and making applications
  • Ensure that all contemporary records are kept by the project team members for use in supporting claims, extensions of time, and the evaluation of variations
  • Support any tender processes as require
  • Identify project risks and develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimise the commercial effect of said risk
  • Identify project and business opportunities and develop the necessary strategy to realise said opportunities
  • Liaise with the Company's Procurement team, as necessary for the engagement of subcontractors
  • Liaise with the Company's Tendering and Estimating team for project hand over for opportunities secured, and support in opportunities currently bid for.

Required Skills:

  • Understand standard forms of contracts
  • Experience of working within an M&E setting
  • Experience of tendering and pre-contract cost analysis
  • Understands conflict avoidance, conflict management and dispute resolution procedures
  • Negotiating, settling and agreement of Interim / Final Accounts
