We are seeking a dedicated Health Safety & Environment Manager to support the development and implementation of an OHS strategy and associated plan. This role is crucial for driving a Health & Safety culture across the business and ensuring full compliance with legislation and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will provide specialist support and advice on all Health, Safety, and Environment matters, ensuring compliance and continual improvement of our systems, policies, and procedures.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Monitor health and safety risks and hazards in the workplace.
  • Advise employees on how to minimise or ultimately avoid risks and hazards.
  • Ensure the business is legally compliant with all health and safety legislation.
  • Train all employees to manage, monitor, and improve health and safety standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections and manage emergency procedures like fire drills and emergency teams.
  • Create and manage health and safety monitoring systems and policies.
  • Stay updated with changes in legislation and standards through continual professional development.
  • Conduct risk assessments and review them regularly to develop safe systems of work.
  • Record, investigate, and report all accidents and near misses.
  • Liaise with enforcement bodies as required and arrange health surveillance if needed.
  • Promote a health and safety culture by leading by example and challenging unsafe behaviour.
  • Propose improvements within the health and safety management systems to the board of directors.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Diploma (NVQ level 5 equivalent) or evidence of working towards it.
  • Must have a NEBOSH General Certificate or QCF Level 3 equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a HSE role, ideally within FMCG, warehouse, distribution facilities, or multiple site operations.
  • Demonstrable compliance to legislation with a sound technical Health and Safety knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams.
  • Experience in Accident investigations and effective root cause analysis.
