Maintenance Technician

Your new job will be working for a university across their Merseyside locations.
Your new role

  • Majority of work is REACTIVE however there is an element of planned works, but must have experience with reactive
  • Able to use a mobile phone to receive daily jobs from the resource planners (they will be upgrading to a PDA at some point)
  • Report in to Resource Planners mainly - will liaise to get new jobs and confirm when jobs have been complete. Dale (manager) will be there for any complex issues or advice required.
  • 150 buildings in total ranging from brand new laboratories, offices and grade 2 listed buildings
  • They have pool vans so are able to use however a lot of the time will be walking round campus - unless bigger jobs which require more tools and man power etc.

What you'll need to succeed

  • From a NHS background as works and equipment are very similar
  • Electrical background (18th Editions, NVQ etc) however ideally a mechanical background as well so can change fan belts etc
  • Must have experience 3phase LV network (Electrical - more commercial not domestic)
  • If not then possibly commercial maintenance background i.e. CBRE
  • A housing background or trades
  • No DBS required
  • Must be physically able as most of the time you will be walking around campus from site to site as it is easier / quicker than driving
  • Must have very good communication skills as will be going into various offices which may have directors, professors, students etc
  • Must be polite, well spoken and able to get on with people
  • Familiar with BMS or BEMS - software that turns on and off heating systems
  • Full UK driving license and have your own vehicle to get to site when you are 'On Call'
  • Need to be forward thinking and methodical - able to get to the root cause of the problem

Call out

  • 1 full week on call out (this will be 1 every 6/7 weeks)
  • 1 hour paid each day for being on call
  • 4 hours paid for each call out
  • 8 hours paid for each call out that is more than 4hours
  • Jobs will only ever be Respond and Make Safe (so should not be there for long)
