Job Title: Temporary Librarian

Industry: Library

Contract Type: Temporary

Working Pattern: Part Time

Hourly Rate: £19.05 - £24.95

Contract Length: 3 months with the view of extension

Times: Working between the hours of 9am & 8pm - working two late nights per week and alternate Saturdays.

Example: Week 1 Monday 9-8, Wednesday 9-8 and Friday 1-5 (23 hrs) Week 2 Monday 9-8, Wednesday 9-8, Friday 1-5 and Saturday 9-5 (30 hrs)

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the lead officer in charge of a service point or library, ensuring exceptional service delivery in lending services, ICT, information, and learning.
  • Oversee reader development work and promotional activities, including U5 sessions, Baby Bounce, and author events.
  • Manage a service point and take responsibility for stock selection, maintenance, and promotion.
  • Participate in the recruitment and performance management of staff, including training, appraisals, and team briefings.
  • Produce reports, correspondence, and statistics, as well as perform clerical and administrative duties as necessary.
  • Assist in managing and monitoring devolved budgets for relevant service points.
  • Contribute to the planning, monitoring, promoting, and developing of library and information services to the public.
  • Utilise information technology systems efficiently and effectively to carry out duties.
  • Achieve agreed service outcomes and personal appraisal targets.
  • Undertake training and actively participate in meetings and events to improve communication and professional development.
  • Provide excellent customer service in line with the Council's commitment to customer service excellence and customer care standards.
  • Demonstrate the Council's core values of public service, quality, equality, and empowerment in all duties.
  • Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Adhere to the Council's Health and Safety Policy and relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Uphold the Council's Dignity for all Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Requirements:

  • Experience managing a team, supervising staff, and looking after premises.
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in library management systems.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Passionate about promoting reading and learning to the community.
