Scientist Mass Spectometry

An exciting position has become available for a multinational bio pharmaceutical company based in Slough. They are currently looking for a Scientist working 37.5 hours a week. The position is paying £20.03 an hour (PAYE) or £27.27 per hour (Umbrella).

From a future date to be confirmed (mid-2025), the Company office premises will move to Windlesham, Surrey, GU20 6PP and from that date, will replace the current Company office premises at Slough.

The Role

The position is within the mass spectrometry team within the Biological Characterisation Product Development Sciences department. The team focus incorporates comprehensive detailed characterisation of proteins to elucidate their structure, function and degradation pathways, as well as understanding protein production processes. This is achieved using mass spectrometry based methods, such as peptide mapping, intact mass, multiple attribute methods, host-cell protein analysis, ion mobility, hydrogen deuterium exchange. A wide range of instrumentation is available, including Thermo Q-Exactives and Exploris, Waters Synapt, Waters HDX, Bruker TIMS TOF.

This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic scientist to develop their mass spectrometry skills and experience in the biopharmaceutical sector. It will also provide the opportunity to seek out, develop and implement new assays to support the development of novel protein therapeutics and to publish the work where appropriate.

Lab based work

  • Perform analysis of protein therapeutics using mass spectrometric techniques
  • Tackle scientific problems
  • Keep accurate records and contribute to authorship of analytical aspects of regulatory submissions, technical procedures, protocols and reports
  • Research specific analytical protocols (literature) and keep aware of latest analytical techniques
  • Assay and instrument troubleshooting
  • Ensure lab equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly; initiate appropriate repair and maintenance
  • Ensure appropriate lab material and consumables availability

Study Design

  • Lead experimental design and interpretation of results
  • Utilise a range of mass spectrometry technologies
  • Interpret results, draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Ensure data is captured appropriately in submission ready reports

Experience

  • PhD or several years laboratory experience or equivalent in academic or industrial setting using mass spectrometry Specific skills (Include specific skills and knowledge necessary to meet the objectives of the position)
  • Mass spectrometry expertise
  • Self-management, priority setting and planning skills
  • Establishes/maintains working relationships, sensitive to group dynamics
  • Excellent in relevant IT solutions
  • Very good English literacy
  • Work independently
  • Resilience
