Do you want to progress your career in a trust that has your interests at heart? If all this sounds familiar, then this is an exciting opportunity for you. This friendly and exciting special school for children with social, emotional and mental health needs is currently looking for a positive, inspiring SEMH Learning Support Mentor to join their team in a full time, long term position.

Your role:

  • Collaborate with the class teacher to complement their lesson delivery, providing positive, aspirational support for pupils with complex SEMH needs.
  • Implement pre-agreed work programmes with individual pupils or small groups outside of the classroom, supporting academic learning and boosting academic attainment.
  • Take responsibility in securing pupils' physical, emotional wellbeing, whilst raising their self-esteem and encouraging independence.
  • Mitigate disruption by maintaining a calm and professional persona at all times to de-escalate any challenges that may arise.
  • Forge lasting relationships with staff and pupils to ensure that every pupil receives the best possible mental health support that they deserve to enable them to enjoy a positive, fulfilling school experience.

The successful candidate:

  • Will have demonstrable experience of supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and have a desire to make a lasting impact on their lives.
  • Will be able to relate well to staff and students and foster strong, communicative relationships.
  • Will have a NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in English and Maths (or have proven numeracy and literacy skills to level 2).
  • Will be able to meet the Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards, or have an equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Will be ambitious and enthusiastic about personal development, potentially looking to gain experience to progress into teaching or for those who aspire to work within the area of Social and Emotional Mental Health.
