Autism Practitioners

Helensburgh, West of Scotland

£12.00 - £12.75 per hour / £23,088 - £24,526 pro rata

Full Time & Part Time positions available

Our Helensburgh team provide 24 hour support to 3 autistic young adults who love being active, having a busy social life and keeping connections within their local community.

At Scottish Autism, we acknowledge the specialist support our staff provide to autistic individuals, therefore those doing support work are known as Autism Practitioners. We provide outstanding training and are continuously improving to ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service. This post is a good opportunity for those with a generic support worker experience to specialise.

Each individual has a personalised programme of support, incorporating consistency and structure specific to their needs. Some activities that the individuals participate in are:

- Long scenic walks
- Museum and historic places of interest
- Arts including musical theatre
- Horse-riding, swimming
- Music festivals, eating out

"It's such a good team; the team has a great atmosphere and everyone gets along. We all put the individuals first. I feel happy here, knowing we've achieved something together that makes the individuals happy." - Current Helensburgh Autism Practitioner

As an Autism Practitioner, experience of working within social care is desirable but not essential, as we are seeking to appoint people who share our values and are willing to learn and develop into the role. We will support you to do this by offering an extensive autism specific training programme. We are seeking to appoint people who share our values: Collaboration; Compassion; Change Makers; Contribution.

Autism Practitioners will work as a team to:

- Develop and implement personalised support plans for the supported individuals.
- Build positive relationships with the supported individuals.
- Work in partnership with the supported individuals, their families, and others in their support networks.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure the supported individuals' life goals and aspirations are at the centre of their support.

On a day-to-day basis, Autism Practitioners enable supported individuals:

- To take part in their chosen activities (see some listed above).
- To help maintain their tenancies and support them to make the decisions that matter to them.
- Required support will include personal care, promoting independence and active citizenship, community inclusion, support with household tasks etc.
- As described above, the individuals enjoy a busy social calendar and require support to enable this.

As part of your role, you will be required to undertake shift work, including weekends, evenings and required for on-call, so flexibility towards working hours is key.

We encourage and welcome applications from people with lived experience of autism.
