Client Onboarding Officer

One of the UK's largest and foremost law firms is currently looking for a number of Client Onboarding Officers. As part of a dedicated Client Care Team, you would play a critical role in ensuring client compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and maintaining the firm's reputation for integrity and ethical practices.

The role will suit professional and articulate individuals able to demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of SRA Standard and Regulations relating to conflicts and client due diligence, anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, sanctions regimes, and other financial crime prevention relevant legislation and regulation. Experience in conducting due diligence checks and conflict searches in a law firm would be an advantage at the more senior level of role.

The Role

As Client Onboarding Officer your role would involve conducting due diligence and conflict of interests checks on potential clients and their matters. You'll also provide guidance and support to colleagues on compliance with rules and regulations, and internal policies relating to onboarding clients, acting as a key point of contact and subject matter expert for internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities...

  • Conduct due diligence research and checks on clients, related parties and matters ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including KYC and KYB checks, sanctions and PEP and adverse media checks
  • Preparation of Client Risk Assessments and CDD packs for review by fee earner as well as actively supporting / providing guidance to the fee earner through the client and matter risk assessment process
  • Completion of ongoing monitoring on existing clients and their matters, promptly escalating to the Team Leader any risk assessments with a change in risk rating to high
  • Investigating, analysing and managing conflicts by interrogating systems, running searches to establish the type of potential conflicts, connections between parties
  • Documenting decision and analysis and filing all documents and information on internal systems

The Candidate

  • Understanding of SRA Standard and Regulations relating to conflicts and client due diligence, anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, sanctions regimes, and other financial crime prevention relevant legislation and regulation
  • Experience in conducting due diligence checks and conflict searches in a law firm
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and assess potential risks and conflicts
  • Good understanding of the regulatory environment in which the firm operates
  • Significant influencing and written/oral communication skills required in relation to all levels across the business
  • Experience of working autonomously and able to make decisions within their sphere of responsibility
  • Able to work in a fast-paced setting, think creatively, applying knowledge to problem-solving and issue resolution
