Purpose of the Role

The role will involve helping people who are currently seeking support with social distresses. The Wellbeing Retreat Support Worker will be part of a team providing an "out of hours" service to support adults who are experiencing a mental health crisis at a wellbeing retreat located on the outskirts of Bridgend Town.

Working in close partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB and other key partners the wellbeing retreat will offer a high quality out of hours support service between the hours of 5pm to 11pm Wednesday, Friday Saturday and Sunday.

Wellbeing Retreat Support Workers will assess, monitor and support referred individuals attending the wellbeing retreat working on a 1:1 basis as part of a small dynamic team. Support interventions will be delivered dependant on individual need.

Among other responsibilities you will:

  • Work with compassion and understanding in a trauma informed way
  • Support individuals who present in a variety of ways (anxiety, low mood, self-harming behaviours, social distresses and suicidal ideation) by using your own lived experience in an appropriate and professional manner
  • To work with your manager to develop future service delivery
  • To deliver peer support groups and workshops
  • To provide individuals with accurate information, signposting and guidance on how to access services provided by Mental Health Matters Wales and other relevant third sector providers
  • Identify any risks in delivering the service and inform management
  • Encourage, promote and facilitate participant engagement
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager for Wellbeing, develop and plan workshops
  • To maintain and update accurate records for monitoring, evaluation and reporting purposes and in compliance with the Data Protection Act (2018).
  • To attend supervision and team meetings
  • To understand the services MHM Wales provides and the referral pathways into those services
  • To manage a relationship with the community mental health teams which ensures effectiveness of the crisis pathways for those who need further support.
  • Work with your colleague's and the Wellbeing Retreat Manager to ensure regular involvement of those who access the service, volunteers and staff on service delivery, organisational matters and wider mental health and crisis care strategies.
  • To recognise and deal with potential risks and awareness of personal safety.
  • Ensure access to the wellbeing retreat is via Referral from Health, Social Services, Single Point of Access (SPOA) Crisis team and third sector partners
  • Understand the importance of consent and confidentiality

Professional Development:

  • To undertake an initial training and induction programme.
  • To participate in regular supervision, annual appraisal and personal development meetings with the Operations Manager for Wellbeing services
  • To undertake agreed on-going training/personal development which may include undertaking National Vocational Qualifications.
