Health and Safety Advisor

Are you a motivated, perceptive person with extensive experience in health and safety? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you to join our team in Darlington.

We are looking for someone with experience in delivering safety advice and best practices in a fast-paced environment and the ability to work independently but recognise when to seek support.

The role requires candidates with strong organisational and time-management skills who are detail-oriented with a commitment to task completion. Candidates will be expected to work autonomously, be confident in making and receiving phone calls, remain professional in maintaining client relationships, and able to adapt to changing demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage directly with clients to coordinate, support, and advise on all health and safety matters.
  • Develop comprehensive documentation to meet the growing needs of businesses.
  • Stay updated with legislative changes and communicate these effectively to clients.
  • Create and implement bespoke policies, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Conducting audits, investigations, and producing reports and action plans to address shortcomings.
  • Assist clients with accreditations such as CHAS and Safe Contractor.
  • Actively engage and acquire new clients to drive business development.
  • Regularly review and update policies to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Maintain accurate client records using CRM software.
  • Proactive account management: setting up quarterly check-ins or annual reviews by calling clients.
  • Help with marketing, which includes creating newsletters, blogs, and event support and promotion.
  • Provide top-tier advice on best practices via phone and face-to-face meetings.
  • The readiness to travel when required.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (as a minimum - please do not apply if you do not have this qualification)
  • Minimum of 1 year recent and relevant experience in a similar role
  • GCSEs in Maths & English (minimum grade C or grade 4)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluent in the English Language
  • Full and clean driver's licence

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH Fire Certificate
  • Strong initiative and a proactive approach to tasks
  • Familiarity with the services provided by the WEDO Group
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and spoken communication abilities.

Position: Health & Safety Advisor

Location: Darlington, with North East and occasional UK travel

Contract: Full-time (up to 40 hours per week), Monday to Friday (Part-time contracts available). 3-month probation period

Salary: £29,000-30,000 per annum (pro rata for part-time)

Benefits: 28 days' holiday per year including bank holidays (pro rata), birthday breakfast, death in service and a commission structure on sales generated.
