Senior Quality Engineer

Location: Daventry
Salary: Up to £38,000pa
Hours: 37.5 hours, Permanent role

Metalis are working with a one of the UK's leading Automotive component/parts specialists, who are seeking a dedicated Senior Quality Engineer to join their team. This role is integral to maintaining and improving the quality of our products and processes. The Quality Engineer will support the management of all quality-related issues within the manufacturing and Goods Receiving teams, ensuring our standards meet and exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Management:

  • Manage all quality-related issues within the manufacturing and Goods Receiving teams, including internal, supplier, customer, and customer warranty concerns.

  • Identify defect root causes and implement permanent corrective actions using the Global 8D process.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues swiftly and efficiently to maintain high standards of quality and safety.

  • Auditing and Compliance:

  • Conduct or assist personnel with product and process audits.

  • Implement and maintain control plans and associated documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with and assist in auditing the Business Management System (TS16949/ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001 or ISO45001).

  • Production Oversight:

  • Empowered to stop production if goods or processes are unacceptable, identifying and executing resolution actions required to resume production.

  • Assist with first off sample approvals.

  • Training and Reporting:

  • Assist with quality awareness training.

  • Ensure all business areas adhere to SOPs, reporting to management on compliance and necessary actions.

  • Write high-quality reports and present progress at relevant meetings.

  • Continuous Improvement:

  • Promote APQP & continuous improvement techniques such as Six Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), and Measurement System Analysis.

  • Participate in cross-functional teams for new product development or changes to current products.

  • Develop and refine Process FMEA's (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).

  • Lead process improvement activities.

  • Supplier Management:

  • Act as a single point of contact for supplier quality/management contacts.

  • Resolve issues relating to supplier non-conforming material promptly.

  • Develop positive working relationships with the supply base.

  • Communication:

  • Communicate effectively at all levels within the business.

  • Produce and present high-quality written reports.

Skills & Attributes

  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA processes.
  • Familiarity with TS16949 and ISO9000, as well as ISO14001, OHSAS18001, ISO45001.
  • Awareness of measurement techniques, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Effective in managing competing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of cost and financial impacts related to quality.
  • Team-oriented with mentoring abilities.

Qualifications and Experience Levels

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree preferred, or equivalent qualifications (ONC, A Levels, BTec Diploma Level 3, or NVQ level 3).
  • Membership in an industry-related Professional Body is advantageous.
  • Experience in Quality Assurance is essential.
  • Six Sigma skills are highly desirable.
  • Experience dealing with both customers and suppliers is crucial.
