Job Opportunity: Assistant Buyer with strong building material knowledge
Our client is seeking an Assistant Buyer with extensive knowledge of building materials, ideally someone currently working in a builder's merchant who is looking to transition into a purchasing role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to site requests, sourcing materials from appropriate suppliers based on requirements and delivery timelines.
- Identify Large Package Purchasing needs, obtain quotes, compare against budgets, and present solutions to the team for approval.
- Review and process material invoices monthly using our cloud-based software.
- Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers, seek areas for improvement, and explore new supplier options. Maintain an organised supplier contact list.
- Assist surveyors with purchasing-related tasks, including cost gathering.
- Provide administrative assistance related to material purchasing as needed.
- Conduct regular site visits to gain a deeper understanding of the construction process.
- Handle incoming calls to the purchasinContinueg department, directing inquiries appropriately.
Working Hours & Location:
Monday to Friday: 8am – 5pm
Semi-remote role: Primarily work from home but with occasional visits to the construction sites or office in London (typically no more than once a week).
Salary:
£30,000 - £35,000 (Depending on experience)
