Salary: £24,702 to £25,979 (5% shift allowance paid on top of salary)(pay award pending wef 1 April 2024)

Civil Enforcement Officer - The Role:

Patrol Council managed car parks to ensure parking facilities are operational and safe and issue penalty charge notices to vehicles in contravention of parking orders. Provide advice and assistance to the public on parking related matters.

You will be required to patrol Council-owned /managed car parks in accordance with a shift pattern and roster (including Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays).

Our officers are required to work outside in all weathers patrolling our car parks.

Civil Enforcement Officer - Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol Council managed car parks, either individually or as part of a team, in accordance with the prepared shift pattern and roster
  • Check that all vehicles parked in Council managed car parks have parked appropriately, paid the correct tariff and are displaying a current valid parking ticket, season ticket or permit for the period of time the vehicle is parked or have a current Pay by Phone session
  • Issue Penalty Charge Notices to any vehicles parked in contravention of Cheltenham Borough Councils (Off Street) Parking Orders in a fair, accurate and consistent manner.
  • Deal politely with enquiries from members of the public, providing advice on parking related issues. To inform the public on the process of challenging a penalty charge notice
  • Report any health and safety issues on Council managed car parks in accordance with agreed procedures

Civil Enforcement Officer - You:

  • GCSEs (3 A-C grade) or equivalent, including English
  • Experience of dealing with customers and providing high quality customer care

Similar or related role

  • Experience of maintaining accurate records with good attention to detail
  • Good observation skills
  • Able to deal with difficult or confrontational situations in a calm but confident manner
  • Able to prioritise and manage time effectively
