Job Description - Freelance Social Worker

Location: Lincoln (and surroiunding areas)

Renumeration: £25 per hour, £2,300 per completed Form F presented to panel.

Work with Skylark Fostering, an exciting new startup Independent Fostering Agency committed to making a difference in the lives of children and families.

We are now seeking to appoint Independent Form F Assessors to work with our Assessment Manager to conduct robust and safe assessments of Prospective Foster Carers. If you are a compassionate and qualified social worker with experience of creating detailed, analytical assessment reports and are seeking a new opportunity, this role might be perfect for you. To succeed in this role, you must be capable of producing and presenting high-quality, evidence-based analytical fostering assessments. Additionally, you should possess a thorough understanding of child care legislation, including the Children Act 1989, the Adoption and Children Act 2002, the National Minimum Standards for Fostering Services, and the Fostering Services Regulations.

What does the role of a Form F assessor involve?

  • Conduct detailed evaluations of prospective foster carers using tools like the BAAF Form F.
  • Perform thorough interviews, home visits, and reviews of documentation to assess candidates' suitability.
  • Compile comprehensive assessment reports summarising findings, insights, and suitability recommendations.
  • Present these reports to the fostering panel, ensuring accurate representation of candidates' capabilities and potential challenges.
  • Proficient IT skills to effectively manage and complete assessments and supporting documentation using Microsoft word (or equivalent).
  • Collaborate with the Assessment Manager and Business Support Officer throughout the assessment. Communicate with agency staff including supervising social workers and panel members, to ensure a unified understanding of each applicant's profile.
  • Maintain clear communication with prospective foster carers, providing necessary feedback and guidance.
  • Efficiently time management skills to consistently meet planned deadlines, ensuring timely and effective completion of all tasks.
  • Adhere to all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards, ensuring ethical considerations are met throughout the assessment process.
  • Stay updated on changes in fostering regulations and best practices.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance assessment skills.
  • Participate in training sessions to align with agency-specific processes.
  • Ensure all data is handled confidentially and securely in compliance with data protection laws.

You must also be able to fulfil the following criteria:

Must be a qualified social worker with at least one year of experience undertaking fostering assessments.

  • Must have registration with Social Work England.
  • Must have or be willing to take out Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  • Have access to your own transport/public transport and be willing to travel
  • Willing to attend an induction and attend regular training.
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people are fundamental aspects of Skylark Fostering's policies and practices. We require freelance social workers to uphold and share this commitment with us.
