HR People & Culture Manager

As HR (People & Culture) Manager, you will play a pivotal role in cultivating a culture defined by excellence, high aspirations, and accountability, all rooted in our core values of kindness, unity, and excellence. Your mission is to ensure the effective delivery of your workstream, guided by restorative and trauma-informed practices, with a focus on enhancing employee experiences and fostering a positive workplace culture.

The role entails leading specific workstreams, such as employee relations, safer recruitment, or EDI, wellbeing, performance, and policy. It's crucial to recognise that the focus area may change based on organisational needs and evolving priorities. This flexibility ensures a dynamic and adaptable approach to meet the evolving demands within the People & Culture team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Workstream Management:

Ensure effective delivery across the business, demonstrating clear performance evidence and positive impact.

  • Risk Reduction:

Achieve high levels of compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.

  • Decision-Making:

Balance efficiency, organisational agility, compliance, and ethical practice.

  • Continuous Learning:

Keep knowledge and skills up to date, including technical, digital, restorative, emotional literacy, cultural, and leadership skills.

  • Restorative Practices:

Implement restorative and trauma-informed practices, leveraging people psychology and emotional literacy.

  • Strategic Development:

Develop and execute strategies aligning with the latest pedagogy and practices to drive organisational performance, culture, and skills.

  • Performance Management:

Implement impactful performance management practices, including regular check-ins, setting clear priorities, providing consistent feedback, conducting regular one-on-one meetings and appraisals, and maintaining documentary records demonstrating our duty of care standards.

General Accountabilities:

  • Safeguarding:

Embed safeguarding into working practices and escalate concerns per the safeguarding policy.

  • Health and Safety:

Promote Health and Safety best practices, ensuring a safe working environment in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act.

  • Equality and Diversity:

Champion and advocate for Equality and Diversity throughout the business.

  • Continuous Professional Development:

Commit to performance reviews and continuous professional development.

  • Report Writing:

Write impactful reports for various stakeholder groups, effectively communicating performance, impact, and strategic intent.

  • Training Development:

Design, develop, and deliver training to enable skill development, creating compelling content that inspires and educates.

  • Relationship Cultivation:

Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including trade union and employee representatives.

  • Meetings:

Prepare and present reports at meetings, providing relevant Management Information and data.

Qualifications & Skills:

Essential:

  • CIPD Level 5 or working towards, relevant degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g., GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in a similar environment/industry
  • Successful handling of a range of complex staff issues including HR change, restructures and changes to working practices
  • Proven experience in employee relations, unionised environments, and quality improvement strategies
  • High levels of emotional intelligence and good awareness of the psychology/behavioural science of people
  • Excellent content writing, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in HR databases, report writing, data manipulation, and other HR processes
  • Experience in training facilitation, design, and delivery in HR-related areas
  • Knowledge of equality legislation and issues, and experience in equality monitoring, impact assessment, and positive action measures
