About the Role

Base Location: Aberdeen, Perth or Glasgow

Salary: £63,000 - £94,400 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

This role is within our SSEN Transmission Cyber programme team supporting our Digital Strategy and Vision to be a progressive network owner, using digital to enhance social and economic value, deliver a leading experience for our customers and to enable the energy system to support net zero carbon emissions.

The Technical Manager will lead all elements of the technical delivery for the SSEN Transmission Cyber Resilience OT security programme (CROT). The role includes supply clear and concise technical leadership, to a small team of SME's and Analysts and will report to the CROT programme Manager. The role ensures that solutions delivered across multiple complex projects within the CROT programme are coordinated and will deliver against the strategic objectives of SSEN Transmission. The role will work with technical leaders across the organisation to help enable delivery of future digital capabilities in a secure and resilient way.

Critical to the role includes the need for in-depth design review and effective optioneering to choose the right solutions to protect our IT / OT systems.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Provide technical and design coordination across each project within the CROT programme, to ensure the delivery of the agreed risk reduction controls across SSEN Transmissions IT/OT systems.
  • Provide support to project technical resources through use of expert domain knowledge to ensure appropriate Cyber Security solutions are selected, designed, and delivered in line with SSEN Transmissions OT strategy and the programme timelines.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical programme blockers that could impede the delivery of individual projects or the overall programme.
  • Act as subject matter expert by challenging project design maturity, ensuring designs are fit-for-purpose, representing solution being delivered by the programme in design reviews.
  • Weigh up technical benefits, business costs and operational constraints to choose appropriate and proportionate solutions in a risk environment with a high degree of uncertainty.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Good theoretical and practical understanding of telecommunication and IT systems.
  • An understanding of the NIS Regulations, NCSC CAF, and the NIST frameworks coupled with appropriate security standards and frameworks such as ISA/IEC 62443, NIST SP 800-82.
  • Strong knowledge of cyber-attack vectors and vulnerabilities.
  • Experience of supporting project delivery from a technical perspective; defining timescales, dependencies, plans.
  • Ability to technically assess issues/problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions.
