Head of Catering

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Catering to work on a permanent basis across an organisation with on-site kitchens based in the Enfield area. The right candidate will actively promote the company's values, and will have responsibility for planning, preparing and delivering an efficient and quality meal service. The job is 36 hours per week, expected working days are Monday to Friday day shifts, but some flexibility may be required according to requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure excellent food quality, presentation and service, including overseeing the planning, preparing and cooking of meals.
  • Remain aware of developments in the food industry, including consumer preferences.
  • Develop menus.
  • Ensure that special diets are catered for and that serving staff are aware of any allergies. Ensure allergy tracker is kept updated.
  • Ensure an appropriate level of catering staff for a consistent service. Assist in the recruitment and appointment of catering staff, including temporary workers covering absence.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships across the organisation, including representing Catering at meetings.
  • Conduct probations and performance reviews for all catering staff.
  • Manage the financial budget to ensure the catering service is cost-effective, efficient of a high quality. Complete financial reports including cost/sales analysis.
  • Purchase ingredients and equipment, ensuring delivery notes are checked and any discrepancies are reported immediately to the supplier.
  • Avoid wastage wherever possible.
  • Ensure that facilities and general surroundings of the kitchen and dining room are maintained. Ensure that required repairs are reported and arranged immediately, and unsafe equipment is removed from use until it is repaired. Ensure the dining area is clean and attractive.
  • Ensure employees work safely, and that equipment is only handled by authorised personnel.
  • Ensure that Health, Safety, Fire and Hygiene regulations and policies are applied continuously and that there are no breaches of Statutory or Local Authority regulations.
  • Ensure that all accidents, incidents, and diseases are reported.
  • Take responsibility for the regular inspection and maintenance of the First Aid Box.
  • Perform other tasks as may reasonably be required.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Catering management qualification level 3 or above.
  • Credentials in health and safety training.
  • Experience leading a catering team.
  • Experience developing menus with an emphasis on healthy options.
  • The ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a cheerful disposition.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise workload.
  • Safeguarding training.
