Location: Hybrid - school sites across Herefordshire, and some home working

About the Role

We're seeking a skilled HR Advisor to deliver high-quality HR support and advice across a range of HR areas, specifically for schools and academies. This role involves providing guidance on complex employee relations issues, acting as an investigating officer, report writing, and attending formal meetings. You'll also help shape HR policies, work with Trade Union representatives, and develop and deliver training sessions for clients on various HR topics.

This position is ideal for someone with proven experience managing complex HR casework—such as disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence management, TUPE, redundancy, appraisal, and capability cases—who is comfortable offering advice remotely and on-site at schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide HR guidance to schools and academies on complex casework, often serving as an investigating officer.
  • Develop and update school-specific HR policies and procedures.
  • Design and deliver training sessions on HR topics.
  • Collaborate closely with Trade Union representatives.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Experience: Demonstrable experience handling complex HR issues, including disciplinary actions, grievances, absence management, TUPE, and redundancy.
  • Qualifications: Ideally CIPD qualified or with equivalent relevant experience; strong knowledge of employment law is essential.
  • Skills: Excellent time management, interpersonal skills, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions in challenging situations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel regularly to school sites across Herefordshire (own transport required).
  • Understanding of school-specific HR regulations (Burgundy Book, School Teachers' Pay & Conditions Document) is beneficial but not essential.
