A delightful Catholic primary school in the heart of Kensington and Chelsea is seeking a Special Educational Needs Learning Support Assistant to work 1-1 with a child in Year 3. This child has global delay, social, emotional and mental health needs, and delayed speech and language development. The school are looking to hire a LSA who has previous experience working with Primary aged children with SEN. This is a fantastic opportunity to become an integral member of this warm and welcoming school community. As a small, one-form entry school, you will have the opportunity to develop close relationships with the children, their families and other members of staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1-1 support: Work directly with a Year 3 child with global delay, social, emotional and mental health needs, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Implement and adapt learning activities: Design and modify activities to meet the child's specific learning requirements.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment: Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom atmosphere that supports the child's learning and emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders: Work closely with the SENDCO, classroom teacher, and parents to monitor and report on the child's progress.
  • Social and emotional learning (SEL) interventions: Conduct SEL interventions to enhance the child's decision-making skills, interactions with others, and self-management of emotions.
  • Speech and language support: Assist with activities and exercises recommended by speech and language therapists to support the child's communication development.

Requirements:

  • Experience with special educational needs: Proven experience working with children who have special educational needs, particularly those with global delay and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Classroom experience: Previous experience working in a classroom setting.
  • Understanding of global delay and associated learning needs: In-depth knowledge of the educational and developmental challenges associated with global delay.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Ability to quickly build rapport and establish a positive relationship with the child.
  • Effective communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with school staff and parents.
  • Patience and empathy: A patient and empathetic approach, with a passion for supporting the individual needs of students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: Ability to adapt teaching methods and strategies to meet the changing needs of the child.
