Liability Underwriting Manager

Our client is an established MGA who have experienced an exciting period of growth over the past few years.

Due to this they have restructured their leadership team and looking to add a Liability Underwriting Manager to be responsible for all Casualty lines and be the technical referral for the rest of the team.

As a forward-thinking business, they are happy to consider people across the UK who are looking to work from home, and able to occasionally report into a Leeds based office.

Key Duties:

  • Management of a number of binders with A rated providers
  • Overall responsibility for the Liability book alongside a team of general Commercial Underwriters
  • Develop, document and maintain clear underwriting procedures and processes
  • Profitable underwriting and management of those schemes
  • Ability to negotiate, analyse, and conduct profitability testing
  • Producing reports for the Operations Manager based on retention, new business and growth
  • Assessing risk and determining the terms and conditions of liability insurance policies
  • Analysing and evaluating the potential liability exposure of individuals and businesses
  • Collaborating with other departments/offices to ensure underwriting guidelines and regulations are met
  • Reviewing policy documents and communicating underwriting decisions to stakeholders
  • Monitoring industry trends, legal developments, and emerging risks to inform underwriting decisions
  • Providing exceptional customer service and support to clients and internal teams

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong experience of binder management & how to enable business growth through technical underwriting with a commercial focus
  • Strong underwriting experience with the ability to deliver solutions to complex issues and implement underwriting strategies in an operationally effective manner alongside an ability to think strategically and assess the impact of changing risks over the medium term
  • A proven track record in the Underwriting of Liability risks
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations and industry best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Skilled in establishing and nurturing relationships both internally and externally
  • Proactive and capable of managing your own workload efficiently to meet service standards
  • Focused on meeting tight deadlines, even under pressure
  • Experience with SchemeServe is advantageous
  • Cert CII qualification an advantage
