Accounting Technician Hybrid

The role is 1 day a week in hte office in Belfast, and rest of the week working from home.

Contract length is 12 months

Our client is the UK government department responsible for safeguarding our natural environment, supporting our world-leading food and farming industry, and sustaining a thriving rural economy.

As an Accounting Technician your main responsibilities would be to:

  • Assist the lead accountant in the Project Finance Team, who report directly to the Project Director.
  • Support day to day management and governance of the assigned Departmental Expenditure Limit budget from reserves.
  • Manage an Accounts Payable and Accounts receivable function.
  • Assist with all these functions and assist that the team manage and ensure purchase orders are raised, payments are processed within recommended timescales, and monitor project procurement contracts, invoices, payments, and payment trackers.
  • Assist with the management of the Finance admin team.
  • Review and approval of invoicing, payments and purchase orders, ensure the payments are processed within recommended timescales.
  • Completion of various finance returns as necessary.
  • Review and completion of Journals
  • Assist with tracking of budget spend.
  • Report of budget and spend positions to SEO Accountant via Management information and formal meetings,
  • Contribute to financial planning exercises including profiling of Project Budget.

You'll have relevant experience in:

  • Experience of building positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally, including senior managers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of working within an Accounts Payable and an Accounts receivable function within a finance team.
  • Experience of managing a team of staff to deliver outcomes against competing priorities.
  • The ability to work on own initiative, delivering results and managing work in a complex and fast moving environment and subject to competing priorities.
  • Ability to identify, resolve or escalate the issues and find ways of solving or pre-empting problems.
  • Ability to lead, develop, motivate and manage staff.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and provide a positive contribution to the overall success of the team.

You will also have these Qualifications/Skills:

  • Public sector preferred but not essential
  • Passed the final examination and be a full member of an Accounting Technician body
