Criminal Secretary/co Ordinator

Douglas Scott are working with an established law firm in Manchester who are looking for a Criminal Secretary/ Co-Ordinator. The role would suit someone who has experience within Criminal Law as a Paralegal or Legal Secretary.

You will assist the practice solicitors in delivering legal advice and representation to clients in line with the firm's philosophy. This includes supporting them in relevant areas of law to ensure effective client service and adherence to professional standards.

You'll be expected to maintain well-organized case files with thorough documentation of all work undertaken prepare the out of hours Police Station Rota.

Rota and Court Management

  • Prepare and manage the out-of-hours police station rota.
  • Compile fortnightly court lists, allocate advocates, and ensure case coverage for Friday meetings.

Case Management

  • Enter and maintain future hearings and critical dates in the central diary.
  • Update the trial diary and case management system.
  • Handle daily outcome sheets, ensuring proper case allocation and billing.
  • Chase CPS for papers and update the case management system.

Client and Police Liaison

  • Schedule custody visits.
  • Maintain a spreadsheet of police station call-outs.
  • Notify police and clients of changes for those released under investigation.

Administrative Support

  • Type letters and attendance notes from digital dictation.
  • Divert the office mobile phone daily to the on-duty solicitor.
  • Ensure legal aid is in place for all cases.
  • Open police station files and handle new client enquiries.

Team and Compliance

  • Assist staff and fee earners as needed.
  • Maintain accurate time records and client files.
  • Uphold diversity policies and report issues to the Practice Manager.
