VAT Accountant
Rutland, Leicestershire
6 Month contract
£250 - £450 a day depending on experience
We are currently recruiting for a prestigious independent school, is seeking a Temporary Accountant for a minimum of 6 months. The role involves the practical implementation of VAT on school fees and submission of VAT returns, requiring a candidate with a strong background in VAT and tax.
Day to Day of the role:
- Configure the accounting software to account for VAT effective from 1 January 2025.
- Develop and document VAT processes, and train the Finance team and other colleagues.
- Stay updated with VAT implementation in the independent school sector.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors and HMRC regarding VAT matters.
- Submit quarterly VAT returns via Making Tax Digital.
- Suggest and implement new processes and controls for efficiency and strengthened controls.
- Participate in a range of financial activities including management accounts, statutory accounts, and ledger work on an ad hoc basis.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Specialism in VAT and tax, with practical experience in partial exemption.
- Thorough understanding of VAT accounting and reporting regulations.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and IT skills.
- Experience in the education or charity sector is beneficial.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated, and highly organised.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects to deadline and budget.
