About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Contract Supervisor to join our dynamic Highways & Engineering team. As a Contract Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and ensuring the successful delivery of a wide range of civil engineering and highway construction projects. You will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all projects are completed to the highest standards, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Supervisor in delivering service objectives and team tasks effectively.
  • Supervise and inspect highways engineering works carried out by external contractors, ensuring compliance with contract procedures, construction standards, and specifications.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external organisations, customers, and stakeholders to ensure efficient delivery of highway engineering schemes.
  • Provide technical guidance to contractors on construction methods, material specifications, design options, and the use of equipment, ensuring that all practices comply with safety requirements.
  • Make engineering decisions on additional work required in the absence of an Engineer, considering cost, time, and potential disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including daily site activities, weather conditions, and resources used, to inform financial assessments.
  • Conduct site inspections on projects under Section 38 agreements, monitor progress, and report any variations, ensuring adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Oversee material testing, supervise processes, and interpret results to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to identify opportunities for service improvement and value for money.

About You
To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • At least 10 years of experience in civil engineering contract works, including highway construction.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering contracts, documentation, specifications, and relevant legislation (e.g., Health and Safety, CDM).
  • The ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Membership of the Institute of Highway Works Superintendents or Institute of Clerk of Works and RASWA (Supervisors) Ticket is desirable.
  • Competency in using computers for record-keeping and communication.
