Job Summary

The job holder will be responsible together with the COLP & COFA for creating an effective internal compliance function and ensuring that the firm is compliant with all regulatory obligations.

Main Responsibilities

This will be reflected in the instruction from your Line Manager. In general, however, the main responsibilities can include:

  • Proven experience in writing and implementing risk and compliance policies and procedures
  • Understanding of legal compliance regulations and quality standards
  • Ensuring the firm is compliant with all regulatory requirements
  • Perform risk assessments to understand risk level, significance and scope
  • Keep up to date and understand relevant laws and regulations
  • Contribute to robust and effective compliance controls within the firm
  • Review marketing materials, presentations and websites to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for conflict checks and reporting
  • Dealing with complaints and managing claims
  • Renewing of practicing certificates
  • Review, monitoring and updating the firm's policies & procedures
  • Compliance record keeping and monitoring
  • Ensuring existing staff and new starters adhere to internal risk management, quality procedures and general compliance awareness
  • Compliance audits with feedback reports to Directors
  • General compliance awareness activities for all employees
  • Liaising with Heads of Departments, fee earners and support staff
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual Board reports
  • Answering telephone calls in a professional manner
  • General administrative tasks, including file and record management
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by the Director(s) which are consummate with the job holders grade and experience
  • Make a positive contribution towards business growth
  • Supporting all colleagues

Education

  • Minimum of 5x GCSE's (or equivalent) including English and Maths
  • Compliance qualifications would be advantageous

Knowledge

  • Microsoft Office with excellent keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of case management software
  • Solid understanding of SRA handbook (and any other relevant legislation, regulations and rules that apply to the firm)

Experience

  • Proven previous experience in legal risk and compliance
  • Phone answering and dealing with regulators when required
  • Able to explain complex matters in clear, accessible language
  • Analysing compliance data to present it in a clear and logical report for Directors
  • Full, clean drivers licence
  • Knowledge of compliance procedures and managing risks to compliance
