Senior Operational Controller - Castleford - Hybrid

This is a senior finance role that will form an integral part of the Group Finance team, as well as business partnering to a key business unit.

The role is working for an innovative, fast paced and high growth PE backed business based in Castleford!

The role will primarily focus on ensuring accurate reporting of revenue, accrued income, materials, inventory and related direct costs to ensure that Gross Margin is accurately recorded in line with relevant accounting standards.

You will be responsible for ensuring on a project by project basis financial records are robust and accurate, as well as providing relevant financial analysis and reports on the profitability of jobs.

The role would be ideally suited to someone ACA/ACCA qualified with a practice/audit background, or with experience in construction/project accounting - but this is desirable, not essential.

Reporting to the Group Finance Director, the key duties of the role will include:

  • Managing a team of direct reports
  • Project accounting: to ensure income and costs recognised in accordance with accounting standards and ensure accrued / deferred income and costs captured correctly.
  • Provision of relevant financial analysis on the profitability of each job and including updated costs to complete estimates and variance analysis of actual versus budget/forecast.
  • Full ownership of relevant balance sheets, including reconciliations and supporting documentation. Implementation of regular reviews of balance sheet reconciliations and related controls to ensure team are reporting accurate balance sheet positions.
  • Responsible for ensuring robust reconciliations and support is in place for areas, such as revenue recognition, accrued/deferred income/costs, stock counts and relevant accruals and prepayments.
  • Work with the Directors to support the preparation of divisional budgets and forecasts
  • Identify potential process and system improvements, taking recommendations to the CFO
  • As part of the wider Finance management team participate in or lead business projects

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant - QBE will also be considered for the right experience
  • Have proven experience of both management and financial accounting - Essential
  • Have Project/construction accounting experience - Desirable
  • Have strong business partnering skills with the ability to engage, challenge and influence others at a senior stakeholder level through verbal and written communication - Essential
