What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Newham. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.

We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

If you think this is not the right role for you, do still apply as we are always on the lookout for people with different expertise to work with our pupils in various locations.

About The Pupil

Our pupil is a 7 year old boy in Newham with severe learning and medical needs. He has a visual impairment and delayed communication and interaction skills. He has not attended school before and will need a tutor who has experience working with severe learning difficulties. He is a generally happy child who loves being around others and is very smiley around trusted adults. This delightful boy has carers at all times, so your role would be to encourage his engagement through sensory massage, play and stories - as well as use of switches. If you want to support a pupil with their first steps in improving their communication and cognition, this would be the perfect role for you. We are looking for someone who has the right motivation to make a difference in this child's life.

The ideal candidate will be able to help this pupil develop communication skills so that he is able to express his needs and emotions. Someone who is patient and caring will be essential, as he has faced many medical challenges. Experience with using a sensory curriculum will be crucial.

About you:

  • You'll have some experience with SEN: severe learning difficulties and physical/medical needs
  • You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way
  • You'll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
  • You'll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan
  • Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning
  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
  • Use a person-centred approach in their work
  • Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do
  • Have the determination, attention to detail and energy to bring about continuous improvement.

Benefits:

  • Generous and competitive rates of pay
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Friendly support and guidance to enable you to meet the individual needs of learners and to ensure that you feel confident in your position
  • Training in working with children with SEND
  • Option to arrange work around the existing schedule
  • Join a friendly and supportive team

At ASEND you will always be well supported by our highly qualified and experienced team and well-remunerated for your work.
