The Legal & Compliance Counsel, United Kingdom and Ireland is a key member for legal and compliance activities in the United Kingdom and Ireland ("UKI"). He/ she will report directly to the UK&I General Manager with a reporting dotted line to the Regional Legal Manager for Oncology Driven Countries, South & Western Europe (a global region that includes West Europe, Canada and Japan).

He/ She will be responsible for providing advice and direct oversight of all legal & compliance affairs for UKI. He/ She is responsible for providing help with legal advice and Legal and compliance affairs for the company/ UKI in a context where the main legal needs are in the UK part. The position is based in Slough, United Kingdom and includes occasional travel mainly in UKI area but also occasionally internationally (West Europe).

Main Legal responsibilities (together with the relevant department in French head office):

  • Main point of contact for both the local team and global team for all legal affairs within the UKI subsidiary.
  • Draft, review and negotiate all relevant agreements pertaining to the UKI subsidiary activities. Mainly it includes (but is not restricted to) distribution, promotion, HCP/HCO contracts, purchasing agreements.
  • General legal advice: Providing pragmatic legal advice and recommendations for any legal questions. It includes but is not restricted to competition Law, Commercial Law, Pharmaceutical Law (in particular in connection to Market Access), Data Privacy Law (together with HQ), New Technologies, criminal law, IP law ect...
  • Develop standardized and localized processes and templates to efficiently deliver legal services in UKI.
  • Manages litigations in accordance with internal organization charter and coordination with HQ
  • Provides guidance and support to affiliates on development, maintenance and interpretation of internal legal policies and procedures,
  • Directs and conducts periodic reviews and updates related to internal legal policies and procedures
  • New legislation follow-up, analysis of legal changes and their impact on the company, related recommendations.
  • Manage under HQ guidelines the local network of law firm ensuring quality of service and cost optimization
  • Provide sound and pragmatic legal advice
  • Provide regular onsite and online training for the UKI subsidiary and other Group affiliates as UKI Law expert.
  • Close collaboration with the World Operations Legal Affairs/Regional Legal Manager: Regular meetings, briefings, transmissions of regular reports, availability for update of significant matters, participation to team meetings in Europe) .....
  • The position includes but is not limited to the tasks outlined above.

2- Main compliance responsibilities:

  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks that may impact the businesses objectives, projects or operations. Seek to proactively minimize the negative impact of risks while maximizing opportunities for success. It involves a systematic and ongoing approach to understanding, evaluating, and responding to uncertainties and risks.
  • Continuously recognizing internal and external factors that may lead to adverse outcomes or opportunities.
  • Ensuring that risk management practices align with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. To integrate risk management into the businesses' governance structure and decision-making processes.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by General Manager and/or Regional Compliance Officer.

3- Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor with minimum experience of 5 years PQE within a law firm and/or an inhouse legal department of a company with an international dimension.
  • Pharmaceutical sector (in house and/or in a law firm) experience highly preferred or alternatively in a highly regulated sector.
  • Strong legal experience in various legal matters including contract law, litigation, corporate, commercial, IP matters.
  • Unquestioned integrity and high personal standards of excellence
  • International exposure (studies and/or work experience) outside home country.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated team player who will take a proactive approach in managing, prioritizing, and seeking to continuously improve internal legal and compliance function Ability to handle multiple requests at the same time ensuring the right level of priority for each matter
  • The role does not include per se Trademarks/patents (handled centrally at the head office), and Tax law However extensive cooperation is required from the successful candidate almost daily on all these matters.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft tools and ability to absorb
  • Interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively transversally with other departments as partner.
