About this client

Our client is 18 years old; he currently lives at home with his Mum, Dad, two younger sisters and a family dog. Once he starts university his time will be split between living at home and living at Bath Spa University. He is a highly intelligent, outgoing, and charming young man with a wide range of interests and hobbies, including listening to music, writing poetry, baking, and enjoying church activities. He is extremely articulate and uses an e-tran spelling board to communicate. Our client has complex medical needs and requires assistance with all areas of personal and self-care, has 24-hour extra oxygen, has a gastrostomy PEG and uses a BiPAP ventilator during the night.

Overview of role:

Our client requires 2:1 support both at university and at home. He will be starting a Creative Writing course at Bath Spa University in September. He is looking for staff to act as communication partners, to help with studies and fulfil his care needs. He also requires staff to support him socially so that he can enjoy all aspects of university life. It is important that candidates feel able to keep up with him at his academic level.

The roles are offered 24 hours per week, working a mix of days, afternoons, evenings up until 10pm 7 days a week. Staff may be asked to stay on later if Jonathan has social activities planned. The rota is agreed a month in advance and preferred days to work/not work are accommodated where possible. Staff will also support our client on trips away and provide some occasional waking night support by prior negotiation. It is a busy household and the family, and our client needs staff who are willing to muck in as and when required with all tasks but also know when to step back to allow the family quality time together. Some household duties form part of the role. This is a no-smoking rule.
