SALARY: £30,000 - £46,525 per annum (TLR 2c - £7,847pa) + Benefits

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a passionate, enthusiastic and creative Director of Learning / Head of PE who displays a passion to foster and promote an enthusiasm and love of sport and learning amongst children.

Working as Director of Learning / Head of PE you will be responsible for providing effective leadership for colleagues within the curriculum area, including ITT and TA's plus technical support as appropriate.

  • 379 students currently studying one of their examination PE courses across Y9-Y11
  • Students currently receive 5 hours of core PE in Y7, 4 hours in Y8 and 2 hours in Y9-Y11
  • Within Key Stage they deliver an innovation concept curriculum which aims to develop skills and attributes that can be applied to a full breadth of sporting disciplines and activities
  • Extensive extra-curricular program having, on average, over 20 clubs running weekly covering a vast array of different sporting pursuits

DUTIES

Your duties as a Director of Learning / Head of PE will include:

Leadership

  • Lead your curriculum area effectively to ensure data is used to inform effective planning and target setting that enables students' achievement and progress
  • Ensure effective communication is established and maintained with colleagues, students, parents, Governors and other external providers
  • Establish short, medium and long-term plans for the development and resourcing of the curriculum area

Management

  • Ensure the development and updating of curriculum SOW/VLE are in line with national and school expectations
  • Analyse and evaluate internal and external data/examination performance and set targets to raise achievement for individual students/classes/year groups

Monitoring and Evaluating

  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the curriculum area
  • Be responsible for students' academic outcomes and curriculum area performance by analysing and monitoring individual students and whole class/year group performance

Professional Expectations and Development

  • Keep up to date with new pedagogy/new technologies/curriculum initiatives and their use and impact to enhance learning within your subject area
  • Ensure lesson planning is maintained and recorded in the Teacher's Planner

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified Teacher
  • Good staff leadership / management skills
  • Accomplished IT skills
  • Ability to set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
  • Ability to plan and teach well-structured lessons
  • Ability to adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, with enthusiasm and energy
  • Approachability and the ability to deal sensitively with staff, parents & children
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive and professional approach
  • Excellent administrative and organisational abilities, and an eye for detail
