An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineering Apprentice Technician to join our team based in Ashford to help deliver highways & transportation engineering services.

You will be working towards the Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Level 3.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the delivery of a range of Transportation & Highway projects relating to developing drawings and designs (Concept, Preliminary & Detailed Design stages) in accordance with standards & guidelines.
  • Activities may include AutoCAD drawings, site surveys, analysing data and preparing reports.
  • To actively pursue on the job and formal training opportunities that complement PCL business needs and your personal development plan (including development with professional institution).
  • Be flexible and undertake any duties as and when required to assist in the operations of PCL.
  • Adhere to PCL Quality Assurance systems and procedures.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Satisfy all requirements from the chosen Training course and provider.
  • Work towards successful completion of your apprenticeship.
  • Comply with Health & Safety legislation and policies.

The role will develop the successful candidate's skills and experience in:

  • Design of Highways and Transportation Projects.
  • A range of Site Surveys.
  • Preparing reports and technical notes.
  • AutoCAD (Computer-Aided Design) software drawing production.
  • Data analysis and evaluation.
  • Professional development with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

What we are looking for:

This position is ideally suited to school leavers at GCSE or A Level (or equivalent) who can demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum of GCSE grade 4-9 in Maths and English
  • BTEC Level 2 in Engineering is desirable
  • Some work experience or shadowing in an engineering environment would be an advantage
  • Interest in Highways and Transportation related projects
  • Knowledge of software-based engineering and drawing e.g. AutoCAD and other similar 3D software.
  • Good understanding and use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel.)
  • Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training
  • An enthusiastic and can-do attitude
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines
