Senior IT Telecommunications Engineer

The Senior Telco Engineer will be tasked with delivering expert-level technical support for complex telecommunications challenges, conducting advanced diagnostics, and working closely with other support teams to ensure exceptional service reliability and performance. This position demands extensive technical expertise, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to lead critical projects.

Key Responsibilities:

System Maintenance

  • Execute advanced configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of telecommunications equipment and systems.
  • Plan and implement system upgrades, patches, and enhancements to ensure optimal system performance.

Technical Support

  • Provide expert-level (3rd line) support for telecommunications systems, including VoIP, SIP, PSTN, and mobile networks.
  • Resolve complex technical issues escalated by 1st and 2nd Line Support teams.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement long-term solutions.

Incident Management

  • Oversee and document the entire lifecycle of critical incidents, from initial reporting through resolution, including post-incident analysis.
  • Develop and maintain incident response procedures and protocols.

Project Management

  • Lead and contribute to telecommunications projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and new implementations.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and external vendors to ensure successful project outcomes.

Customer Service

  • Provide expert advice and support on telecommunications matters to customers and internal teams, including conducting training sessions.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication with stakeholders regarding issue status and resolution timelines.

Documentation

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including network diagrams, configuration guides, and operational procedures.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for 1st and 2nd Line Support teams.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance telecommunications processes and practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Proficient in telecom network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other telecom equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of telecommunications protocols and systems, such as VoIP, SIP, PSTN, and mobile networks.
  • Experienced with telecom monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Familiar with telecom regulatory and compliance requirements.

Please note, the successful candidate must hold a UK Drivers Licence.

Desirable:

  • Certifications such as Cisco CCNP, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation purposes.
  • Experience with telecom-specific software and platforms like Asterisk or FreeSWITCH.
