Associate Director of Performance - Band 8d

A leading NHS trust is looking for a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of Performance - Band 8d to drive the performance agenda, ensuring that we meet our targets and deliver service.This senior leadership role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in performance improvement, data analysis, and operational management within the public health sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Accountable to the Deputy Director of Performance and Business Intelligence, the Associate Director of Performance and Planning leads in overseeing all aspects of operational performance for the public health body and supports the development of clear governance frameworks for the organisation. Additionally, the post holder will oversee the annual planning cycle and ensure robust monitoring of the achievement of this plan. The post holder will build strong relationships with all operational divisions and corporate teams to support the delivery of the annual business plan and provide clear analysis to drive improvements in care. Acting as a link between the operational, corporate, and executive teams, the post holder will provide high-quality analysis to help the organisation understand its performance and support the development of clear plans for improvement.

Key Result Areas & Performance:

Identify all national and locally agreed performance standards applicable to the organisation and collaborate with the Executive Team, Directorate Managers, Lead Clinicians, and other staff to ensure clarity of ownership around performance and improvement objectives.

Ensure that Executive Directors, Senior Managers, Lead Clinicians, and other staff understand specific performance requirements applicable to their areas of responsibility.

Ensure that Executive Directors, Senior Managers, and Lead Clinicians receive accurate and timely information on performance against key standards, and ensure that appropriate audit trails are in place for key performance standards.

Highlight any areas of potential weakness in the organisation's performance against measures in the frameworks used by regulators and in the organisation's contracts with its commissioners.

Use business intelligence and knowledge of operational best practices to predict, understand, and address performance challenges and opportunities.

Validate and authorise KPI data for regular and ad-hoc performance reports as required for external issue by the organisation.

Analyse and interpret complex performance data, make judgements about the impact on agreed plans and targets, and present options for appropriate action where necessary.

Collaborate with Executive Directors, Senior Managers, and Lead Clinicians to ensure that action plans are developed to address areas of actual or potential performance risk.

Lead the development and maintenance of the organisation's business planning infrastructure.

Develop annual objectives for the organisation, working closely with the Director of Strategy to ensure these objectives are fully aligned with and contribute to the delivery of our strategic objectives.

Develop the project plan for planning processes, securing agreement from all key stakeholders, and developing all supporting documentation.

Ensure the process is managed according to agreed deadlines and principles.

Identify risks to the successful development of a robust plan as they emerge.

Communicate progress against the plan to all stakeholders throughout the process.

Be responsible for developing planning and analytical frameworks that support the organisation's role within the ICS.

Support clinical boards and ICS workstreams in developing business cases, bringing together the key information required, and constructively challenge senior stakeholders to ensure the robustness of business plans.

Essential Qualifications:

Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Proven track record in a senior performance management role within the public health sector.

Experience and Skills:

Extensive experience in performance management and improvement.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.

Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability in programme management.

Skilled in complex report writing.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Strategic thinker with a focus on quality and efficiency.
