Controlled Waste Advisor

AWE is currently recruiting for a Controlled Waste Advisor.

The purpose of this role will be to coordinate and supervise Controlled Waste operations at AWE sites, including task supervision of personnel and management of working areas.

This role would suit somebody from a Chemistry background.

Location - Reading/Basingstoke area

Salary - £36,540 - £43,500 depending on suitability to the role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the provision of operational paperwork including procedures and associated Risk Assessments.
  • Oversee the collection, storage and transfer of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes from site.
  • Assessing hazardous waste properties to ensure the safe handling by Operatives.
  • Responsible for the delivery of Controlled Waste Services in line with agreed service level agreements
  • Identification and implementation of process improvements and efficiencies
  • Planning and scheduling of tasks.
  • Provision of advice and guidance relating to controlled waste processes

To be successful in this role you should preferably have the following skills and qualifications, though training can be provided:

  • Strong knowledge of chemicals and their hazards is desirable.
  • A reasonable level of competence with Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel.
  • An understanding of waste management or related subject.
  • Planning and scheduling of work
  • Knowledge of chemical safety requirements / hazards.
  • Supervising contractors and staff

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
