Research Officer - Economics

Hays are partnering with the Northern Ireland Assembly to recruit a temporary full-time Research Officer in the policy area of economics, including public finance. You will primarily produce non-partisan, objective and evidence-based research, for Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Northern Ireland Assembly Committees, as well as others, such as Assembly colleagues working inside and outside of RaISe.

Your new role

  • Scope research requirements with MLAs, Assembly Committees, and Officials.
  • Retrieve and synthesise information from various sources, including online databases.
  • Deliver high-quality, impartial research and analysis on economics and public finance.
  • Produce evidence-based research outputs, such as papers, briefings, blog posts, and infographics.
  • Present research briefings and training materials to MLAs, Assembly Committee Members, and Officials.
  • Contribute to peer review and maintain specialist knowledge through ongoing learning and development.
  • Identify potential witnesses and specialist advisors for Assembly Committees.
  • Provide support to interns, new staff, and facilitate public events.
  • Develop links with departmental officials, external research bodies, and academics.
  • Work collaboratively as an effective team member and contribute to RaISe's development.
  • Comply with Assembly policies and carry out additional duties as required.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A second-class honours degree (or equivalent or post-graduate qualification), which contained at least 50% of the course content relating to policy development or law-making in the area of economics, including public finance.
  • Have at least two years of work experience post degree (or equivalent or post-graduate qualification) in:
  • Conducting objective, evidence-based research on economic issues, including public finance.

This includes the collation, validation and visualisation of a wide range of date - qualitative and quantitative; and

  • Producing and delivering evidence-based research findings on economic issues, including those concerning public finance, to help inform discussion and decision making relating to policy development or law-making in that area.

What you'll get in return
