Library Team Leader

We have two vacancies for a 'Reader Services Team Leader' to join a leading university in London to work predominantly evenings until 11.30pm and weekend shifts. One position is for 28 hours per week, the other is for 35 hours per week.

The Role:

You will assist in the day-to-day delivery of a first-class service providing a seamless library experience. Ensuring users get efficient and effective access to the information they need and to lead a team of Reader Services and/or Collections Assistants in delivering consistently excellent standards for all library patrons.

You will provide advice, guidance and support to others (e.g. staff, students, colleagues etc.) based on an in-depth knowledge and understanding of their professional area or specialism. As well as planning and organising your own work, you are likely to plan and manage the work of a team of colleagues and/or medium-scale projects.

Duties include:

  • Lead a team to provide organised library services and manage administrative tasks like inter-library loans, DCS, and disability user support.
  • Administer and understand LMS circulation procedures.
  • Organise team training and communicate the work of Reader Services
  • Monitor user issues, handle defaulters and overdue books, and conduct user interviews as needed.
  • Work with Student Disability and other services to implement support for users with disabilities.
  • Describe library catalogue materials under the guidance of subject or regional librarians.
  • Facilitate information exchange within and between teams and departments.
  • Deliver or oversee service support tasks, advising on systems, processes, and procurement to ensure quality, efficiency, and continuity.
  • Oversee work areas, coordinate activities, allocate resources, and ensure procedures are followed to meet objectives. Provide support and problem resolution for issues referred by junior staff.

Experience required:

  • Experience of using online resources for research, library catalogue, databases
  • Strong staff management skills, including a provenrecord of managing, motivating and developing staff/diverse team
  • Experience of applying health and safety,security or buildings management, and data protection procedures
  • Experience of working in a library with an understanding of the academic environment and trends within Higher Education libraries
  • Available to cover weekend and evening shifts
