Head of Health and Safety - Bedford - Education Industry

Pertemps Aylesbury is currently recruiting for a Head of Health and Safety for our client based in Bedfordshire.

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

Hours: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm

_Job Purpose: _

To set new standards of excellence in health and safety management by providing expert advice, support, and recommendations to ensure compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practices within key industry sectors linked to the client programs.

_Main duties: _

  • To be responsible for the preparation of all corporate risk assessments, reporting annually to the Executive for the endorsement of the assessment findings
  • Ensure that control systems are continuously monitored, inspected, and audited to assure the Corporation board that health and safety compliance is effective and sustainable.
  • To ensure that all line managers, senior management team, Executive and Corporation members are provided with professional advice, guidance, and training relating to health and safety legislation and guidance.
  • To implement a corporate risk register and risk management plan and to manage the development, implementation, and compliance of health and safety corporate standards
  • To implement an annual schedule of internal health & safety audits and inspections across all departments, produce written reports on remedial actions, and ensure practical, cost effective solutions
  • To manage the development of an effective health and safety management compliance support system, to ensure the management of significant hazards and risks.
  • To work closely with the Group Director of Estates and Facilities to ensure that the risks associated with all capital building projects are minimised; and to attend project and site meetings to ensure compliance
  • To act as lead advisor to the corporate safety committee and ensure that staff are fully represented. Ensure that regular performance reports linked to compliance standards are produced and promoted to the local health and safety groups

_Requirements: _

  • Level 6 DEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • An excellent knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety management
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Health and safety management
  • Experience in implementing strategy
  • Experience in developing policies and procedures
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Ability to travel to all locations for meetings, events, training etc.
